Definition of Terrorism

Terrorism Defined:

Terrorism is said to be “warfare in the shadows.” It is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as;

“the systematic use of terror especially as a means of
coercion”

Terror is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as;

“Violence (as bombing) committed by groups
in order to intimidate a population or government into granting their
demands"

In the National Strategy for Combating Terrorism, February, 2003, terrorism as the enemy is defined. The enemy is terrorism, which is premeditated and politically motivated violence, perpetrated against noncombatant targets by sub-national groups or clandestine agents. Those who employ terrorism, regardless of their specific secular or religious objectives, strive to subvert the rule of law and effect change through violence and fear.

Terrorism is a crime. Any incident or area where a terrorist act has been committed must be treated as a crime scene.
